Plucked Opens the Manhattan Film Festival
The film plays as Opening Night Film at Cinema Village in New York.
NEW YORK, NY — Plucked screened as the Opening Night Film of the Manhattan Film Festival at Cinema Village, the film's first run in a New York theatrical house. Co-directors Usher Morgan and Katie Vincent attended with members of the cast for a post-screening Q&A with the opening-night audience.
“Opening night is a hard slot. Everyone's dressed up, nobody's warmed up, and the film has to do the work,” said Morgan. “Seeing it hold a Cinema Village crowd told us what we needed to know about playing it theatrically.”
The selection caps a festival run that has produced three awards: Best Horror Feature Film at the Garden State Film Festival, where the film had its World Premiere in March; Best Dark Comedy Film at the New York International Film Awards; and Best Feature Film at the East Village New York Film Festival. The film was also an Official Selection of the Riverside International Film Festival.
Set in Gilded Age New York, Plucked follows Katherine Greene (Vincent), a woman who resolves to divorce her emotionally unstable husband in 1886, on the night of a dinner party staged to preserve appearances. The ensemble includes Jared Canfield, Catherine Curtin, J. Anthony Crane, Bryant Carroll and Susan Gallagher, with cinematography by Giuseppe Masi.
“This film was built to be watched in a room full of strangers,” said Vincent. “You need to hear the person next to you decide whether it's okay to laugh.”
A theatrical release will be announced shortly.
